Basic audio amplifier

On this quick recipe, I will guide you through the process of building a simple audio amplifier using the LM385 chip. This project is perfect for beginners looking to explore the world of audio electronics. For this setup, you will need a few essential components, including a 4.5V battery or an Arduino board (such as the Arduino Uno or Arduino Nano), two minijack connectors, a breadboard, and the LM385 audio amplifier itself.

To illustrate the functionality of this amplifier, we will connect a male-to-male minijack audio cable as the input and use EarPods as the output. It's important to note that the audio will be in mono, as we will be amplifying only one of the two audio channels. Join me as we dive into the assembly and testing of this basic audio amplifier!



Ingredients:


  • 1 x 4.5V Battery or Arduino Board (e.g. Arduino Uno or Arduino Nano)
  • 2 x Minijack connectors
  • 1 x Breadboard
  • 1x LM385 Audio amplifier
  • 1 x 0.1uF capacitor
  • 1 x 1000uF capacitor
  • 1 x 10K ohm variable resistor
  • 1 x 10 ohm resistor
  • Jumper Wires (male-to-male)

I connected a male-to-male minijack audio cable as the input and used EarPods as the output. Please note that the audio is in mono since we are amplifying only one of the two audio channels.
